the rain, the abalone clouds
respiration of trees
behind the clapboard church
mist-glistened sidewalks—
the world is not hard
it is seeping,
breathing us
between street lamps, dusk pools
your own heartbeat
chimes the hour
even the traffic, the wet tires
say shhh…
watch mountains
fall to the sea
open
that long
